Stuart Rhodes aka LINDEN was the roving reporter for All Points North [APN] magazine and Gay Times during the early to mid 1990s. His column for APN was called: Out & About with Linden. He visited Hull three times and documented nights in Vauxhall Tavern and The Alexandra Hotel. Stuart was also a lecturer at a further education college. He adopted the pseudonym ‘LINDEN’ as a way to protect his identity and job due to the Clause 28 legislation sanctioned by Tory governments.
During lockdown Stuart established the Linden Archives online to preserve his work and look back fondly on the brash thriving gay scene of the 1990s. He and his photography have been featured on BBC television & radio and many publications. His photographs have been exhibited nationally and there are several books devoted to his work. His archive is held by John Rylands Library in Manchester University and a series of photos are kept by Manchester Museums.
I was just told to go out and take photos of people having a good time! Me and my mates just went all over. It was a fantastic job.
