Daniel describes himself as a documentarist. Renowned internationally as a photographer and educator Daniel worked at Hull College from 1981 to 1983, teaching photography on the Graphic Design course. Scene But Not Heard photographers Ross Williams, Brett Hambling and Russell Boyce were just three of his students. They and many others describe his techniques as deeply influential, particularly the hours looking at contact sheets, talking through what he saw and explaining how to improve.
Daniel managed to balance a freelance career with teaching and believe this modelled to students how one could make a living.
Scene But Not heard visited him in his home in South Wales to record his story and hear more about his time in Hull.
“I have spent much of my life working collaboratively to record British society, using photographs, audio recordings and short movies. My work reaches its audience though publication and exhibition.”
