In the mid-1980s, Brett photographed life in Kingston upon Hull, documenting working-class venues and communities through images of people at work and play, drag performers Candy de Barry and Lips and Lashes, local events such as Mr Muscle competitions and wrestling at The Tower, and visitors to the Blind Institute.
